you would think that in this day education/intelligence/character is what a person will be judged by and that those are one's real 'aasthi' but sadly even to the so-called well educated society the bottom line still is - 'how much material aasthi one has' ...

I don't see how the age has anything to do with it. It has always been and will be power - if the currency of power be "aasthi" then it will be "aasthi" that is inquired. If it is "asthi" then "asthi" will be inquired.
